What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis can be described as a process of entering or remaining in an altered state of consciousness sometimes referred to as a 'trance state'. This state of trance allows us to preform certain tasks that would be more difficult to accomplish in a so called conscious state of awareness. Although this altered state of consciousness sounds like foreign, semi mystical state of being, in truth we all enter into a trance state for short periods each day of our lives. When we daydream, when we are bored, when we preform repetitive tasks we tend to enter into a phased out or disassociated state for a short time. These can all be referred to as experiences of light trance although some individuals can enter into an even deeper state of trance at these times. We all enter into a deeper state of trance in those short moments just before sleeping and just as we awaken from sleep each morning. The only real difference between these everyday states and hypnosis, is during hypnosis the experience of trance is lengthened from mere moments to that of thirty minutes, an hour or sometimes even longer.

Trance is a natural primal state of being, it occurs in the simplest of organisms in nature, it is observed frequently in the animal kingdom, as well as with the most highly evolved creatures on the planet namely us "Human Beings". It is in the trance state that magic happens with clients, pain literally vanishes even during childbirth, phobias disappear, cravings cease, anxiety and panic attacks begin to fade, high blood pressure lowers and those suffering from insomnia find it easier to sleep after hypnotherapy sessions. It is highly effective for confidence issues such as public speaking, athletes note improved performance. It is of great value with self development, discovering what is holding you back in life such as self-sabotage. It can be said that the trance state is the ideal environment to utilize the necessary psycho-therapeutic techniques to accomplish positive lasting change.
